The conditions below are among the most common reasons patients seek care at Vein Care Medical Center. Click any condition to learn more about its causes, symptoms, and the treatments Dr. Landau recommends.
Varicose Veins
Varicose veins are bulging, twisted veins that typically appear on the legs and are caused by faulty one-way valves that allow blood to flow backward and pool. They can cause aching, heaviness, swelling, and skin changes — and left untreated, they can progress to venous ulcers. Dr. Landau offers multiple treatment options including EVLA, RFA, VenaSeal™, Varithena™, and ClariVein™.
Spider Veins (Telangiectasia)
Spider veins are small clusters of dilated red or blue blood vessels visible near the skin surface. Medically called telangiectasia (red vessels) or venulectasia (blue or purple vessels), they commonly appear on the legs and face. While often cosmetic, they can indicate underlying venous insufficiency. Dr. Landau treats spider veins with Direct Vision Sclerotherapy and Excel V™ laser therapy.

Venous Insufficiency
Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) occurs when vein valves fail to keep blood moving toward the heart, causing it to pool in the lower legs. This elevated venous pressure drives the development of varicose veins, swelling, skin discoloration, and in advanced cases, venous ulcers. CVI is the underlying cause behind many of the conditions on this page. Treatment with endovenous ablation or sclerotherapy directly addresses the source of the problem.
Ankle Discoloration (Corona Phlebectatica)
Ankle discoloration — medically called corona phlebectatica — presents as clusters of purple or blue veins covering the ankle and foot. It is caused by chronic venous pressure forcing tiny capillaries to dilate and become visible on the skin surface. Ankle discoloration is an indicator of significant, long-standing venous insufficiency and should be evaluated and treated promptly to prevent further progression.
Leg Swelling (Edema)
Leg swelling — or edema — can have many causes, but venous insufficiency is one of the most common vascular contributors. When blood pools in the lower extremities due to valve failure, the increased pressure forces fluid into surrounding tissues, causing visible and uncomfortable swelling — typically worst at the end of the day and better in the morning. Dr. Landau evaluates the root cause of leg swelling and recommends the most appropriate treatment, whether vein-related or otherwise.
Unsightly Veins
Problem veins don’t only appear on the legs. Visible veins around the eyes, temples, jaw, upper chest, torso, and hands can also be eliminated through focused sclerotherapy and contact laser treatments. If you have veins anywhere on your body that affect your confidence or comfort, Dr. Landau can evaluate and treat them with the same precision he brings to leg vein care.
Not Sure What You Have?
Many vein conditions share overlapping symptoms and appearances — and some are caused by the same underlying problem. The best way to know exactly what you’re dealing with and what treatment will work is to schedule an evaluation with Dr. Landau. A physical exam and duplex ultrasound will give a clear picture of your venous anatomy and the most appropriate path forward.
