The Excel V™ is a uniquely versatile system that combines two precise laser wavelengths, making it effective across a broad range of skin and vascular conditions:
Rosacea — a chronic skin disorder characterized by clusters of tiny red veins around the nose and cheeks. Excel V™ reduces visible redness and diffuse flushing associated with rosacea.
Spider Veins (Telangiectasia) — small, red or purple thread-like vessels visible at the skin surface, particularly on the legs and face. For spider veins of the legs, Dr. Landau may also recommend Direct Vision Sclerotherapy depending on vein size and type.
Facial Veins — both red and blue visible veins on the face, including around the nose, cheeks, and temples.
Angiomas — benign arterial growths that develop on the body, most commonly on the lower limbs, treated effectively with Excel V™.
Port Wine Stains (PWS) — birthmark-like vascular malformations. Excel V™ can significantly lighten the appearance of port wine stains over a series of treatments.
Freckles and Age Spots — flat brown, tan, or black spots caused by sun exposure appearing on the face, arms, shoulders, and hands.
Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra (DPN) — small, benign skin lesions common on the face, addressed with Excel V™ technology.
Skin Tags — benign skin growths that can be treated non-invasively at Vein Care Medical Center.
Acne Scars — Excel V™ improves the appearance of acne scars, particularly when other dermatological approaches have not produced satisfactory results.
Scar Reduction — minimally invasive reduction of various scars using Excel V™ laser energy.
Wrinkles — Excel V™ can reduce fine lines and revitalize skin texture.
Warts — non-surgical wart treatment using Excel V™ laser technology.
Venous Lake — purple lesions commonly appearing on the lips, treatable with Excel V™.
Benefits for All Skin Types
One of the most significant advantages of the Cutera® Excel V™ is its compatibility with all six skin types as classified by the Fitzpatrick scale — from very fair (Type I) to very dark (Type VI). The system’s dual-wavelength technology makes it uniquely effective across diverse skin tones, setting it above single-wavelength laser platforms. Patients of all backgrounds can benefit from Excel V™ treatment at Vein Care Medical Center.
What to Expect After Excel V™ Treatment
Most Excel V™ treatments require no downtime. You may experience slight redness or localized swelling in the treated area immediately after your session, but this typically resolves within hours to a few days. Unlike surgical procedures, there is no recovery period — you can return to your normal activities right away. Depending on your condition and the number of areas being treated, multiple sessions may be recommended for optimal results.

Excel V™ Laser — Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Cutera® Excel V™ and how does it work?
The Cutera® Excel V™ is an advanced laser system combining two precise wavelengths — a 532nm KTP laser and a 1064nm Nd:YAG laser. The laser light is absorbed by abnormal blood vessels and pigmented lesions beneath the skin, causing them to coagulate and be gradually reabsorbed by the body. The result is clearer skin and the elimination of targeted vascular and pigmented irregularities without surgery or significant downtime.
Is the Excel V™ treatment painful?
Most patients describe the Excel V™ treatment as producing a mild snapping or warming sensation as the laser pulses. Dr. Landau’s team takes every precaution to ensure patient comfort. The procedure is non-surgical and does not require anesthesia. Any discomfort is brief and well tolerated by the vast majority of patients.
How many Excel V™ sessions will I need?
The number of treatment sessions depends on the type and severity of the condition being addressed. Spider veins and facial redness may show significant improvement after one to three sessions. More complex conditions such as port wine stains or acne scarring may require additional treatments. Dr. Landau will outline a realistic treatment plan during your initial consultation.
Is the Excel V™ safe for darker skin tones?
Yes. The Excel V™ dual-wavelength technology is effective and safe for all six Fitzpatrick skin types, including darker complexions. This sets it apart from many single-wavelength lasers that carry higher risks of discoloration in darker skin tones. Dr. Landau will assess your skin type and adjust treatment parameters accordingly.
Is there downtime after Excel V™ treatment?
Excel V™ treatments typically involve no significant downtime. Some localized redness or mild swelling may occur at the treatment site but generally resolves within a few hours to a couple of days. Patients can return to normal daily activities immediately after their session.
Can Excel V™ treat spider veins on the legs?
Yes — the Excel V™ can treat certain leg spider veins, particularly very small, fine vessels. For larger reticular veins or veins with an underlying insufficiency component, Dr. Landau may recommend sclerotherapy or Direct Vision Sclerotherapy as a more effective approach. During your consultation, he will assess your veins and recommend the optimal treatment method.
