How Excel V™ Technology Works

The Excel V™ system incorporates two high-powered laser wavelengths that work together to address damaged and abnormal blood vessels beneath the skin:

  • 532nm KTP (green) laser — targets superficial red and purple vessels near the skin surface with high precision.
  • 1064nm Nd:YAG laser — penetrates deeper to address larger and darker blue vessels.

The laser energy is selectively absorbed by the hemoglobin in abnormal blood vessels. This causes the targeted vessels to coagulate and fuse shut, while surrounding healthy tissue remains unaffected. The closed vessels are then gradually reabsorbed through the body’s natural processes, restoring normal skin appearance.

Patient Comfort and Safety

A key advancement built into the Excel V™ system is its integrated cooling technology, which protects the skin surface during treatment and significantly enhances patient comfort. Unlike older single-wavelength lasers that required significant pre-cooling or numbing creams, the Excel V™’s built-in cooling allows treatments to proceed comfortably with minimal preparation. There is no downtime — patients can resume normal activity the same day.

The Excel V™ is non-invasive, requires no injections or incisions, and produces no lasting side effects when administered by an experienced clinician like Dr. Landau.

Benefits for All Six Fitzpatrick Skin Types

One of the most clinically significant features of the Excel V™ is its proven safety and efficacy across all six Fitzpatrick skin types — from very fair complexions (Type I) to deeply pigmented skin (Type VI). Many laser systems carry increased risks of hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation in darker skin tones. The Excel V™’s tunable dual-wavelength design eliminates this limitation, making it suitable for a diverse patient population.

Conditions Treated with Excel V™ Technology

  • Telangiectasia (spider veins)
  • Leg veins
  • Facial veins (red and blue)
  • Venous lake (purple lesions on lips)
  • Rosacea
  • Port wine stains
  • Angiomas
  • Skin tags
  • Acne scars
  • Wrinkles
  • Warts
  • Age spots and freckles
  • Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra (DPN)

For varicose veins caused by venous insufficiency, Dr. Landau may recommend endovenous procedures such as EVLA or Radiofrequency Ablation, which are designed specifically for larger, deeper vessels. The Excel V™ works best as a complement to or standalone treatment for surface-level vascular concerns.

Excel V™ Technology — Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Excel V™ different from other laser systems?

The Excel V™ is the world’s only tunable laser system combining two best-in-class wavelengths (532nm KTP and 1064nm Nd:YAG) in a single platform. This dual-wavelength capability allows Dr. Landau to precisely match treatment parameters to the specific size, depth, and color of each targeted vessel or lesion. Most other systems use a single wavelength, which limits the range of conditions they can treat effectively.

Is the Excel V™ safe?

Yes. The Excel V™ has an excellent safety profile and is FDA-cleared for the treatment of vascular and pigmented lesions. Its integrated cooling technology protects the skin surface during treatment, minimizing the risk of burns or discoloration. Dr. Landau adjusts all treatment parameters to your specific skin type and condition to ensure both safety and effectiveness.

How comfortable is an Excel V™ treatment session?

The Excel V™’s integrated cooling system significantly reduces patient discomfort during treatment. Most patients describe a brief sensation of warmth or a mild snapping feeling as the laser fires, which is well tolerated without anesthesia. Treatment sessions are typically short, lasting anywhere from a few minutes to under an hour depending on the area being treated.

How many treatments are needed with Excel V™?

The number of sessions varies by condition. Simpler vascular lesions like angiomas or mild rosacea may respond well after a single treatment. More complex conditions such as port wine stains or widespread spider veins may require multiple sessions. Dr. Landau will outline a realistic treatment plan during your consultation.

Is the Excel V™ appropriate for treating leg veins?

Yes — the Excel V™ can treat visible leg veins, particularly fine spider veins and small telangiectasia. For deeper or larger varicose veins with an underlying venous insufficiency component, Dr. Landau may recommend sclerotherapy or an endovenous procedure instead. During your evaluation, he will recommend the most effective treatment for your specific veins.

What skin types can be treated with the Excel V™?

The Excel V™ is designed to safely treat all six Fitzpatrick skin types, ranging from very fair to very dark. Its tunable dual-wavelength system allows precise calibration for each patient, making it one of the most inclusive laser platforms available for diverse patient populations.

Does Excel V™ technology require recovery time?

No significant recovery time is required after Excel V™ treatments. You may experience temporary redness or slight swelling at the treatment site, but most patients return to their normal activities the same day. Dr. Landau will give you specific aftercare instructions to support healing and maximize your results.
